Welcome to Rosalie Rendu Safe Space.
Rosalie Rendu Safe Place is a woman-only, child-safe and trauma-informed wellbeing and support centre being established by Hutt St Centre. It will provide women and their children at risk of or experiencing homelessness with a safe, private and welcoming place to access practical assistance, coordinated support and connections to specialist services.
Why is it needed?
Women are one of the fastest-growing groups seeking support from Hutt St Centre. Since 2021, the number of women seeking our support has increased by 77 per cent. The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimates that approximately 3,936 women are experiencing homelessness across South Australia. In 2025, Hutt St Centre supported 528 women. Rosalie Rendu Safe Place is being established in response to this growing and urgent need.
For many women, accessing support can be difficult. Experiences of domestic and family violence, sexual violence, and trauma can make mixed-gender environments feel unsafe or overwhelming. These barriers can be even greater for women caring for children.
Rosalie Rendu Safe Place will offer a safe, private and welcoming environment where women and their children can access support tailored to their needs. Working alongside existing services, it will strengthen referral pathways across the homelessness, housing, health and domestic and family violence sectors.
Through strategic partnerships, it will complement existing services, helping women access the right support at the right time and move towards safety, stability and independence.
Who it supports?
Almost half of South Australia’s homeless population are women, with an estimated 3,936 women experiencing homelessness. This highlights the significant need for safe, accessible and appropriate pathways to support.
While South Australia has crisis accommodation and specialist support services, there is currently no comparable purpose-designed daytime wellbeing centre where women experiencing or at risk of homelessness can access practical assistance, housing support and connections to specialist services in one location, alongside their children.
Rosalie Rendu Safe Place will help address this gap. Experienced case managers will provide coordinated support and connect women with health, financial and family services. By helping women access assistance earlier, Rosalie Rendu Safe Place will also help reduce reliance on emergency services.
Working in partnership with existing services, Rosalie Rendu Safe Place will strengthen referral pathways across the homelessness, housing, health and domestic and family violence sectors, helping women and their children move towards safety, stability and independence.
What services does it provide?
