Restoring hearing and hope

Our sense of hearing is so much more than just listening to a conversation, as Annette from Hearing Australia knows.

“When someone can’t hear well, they can feel excluded from conversations and start to withdraw socially. Over time, this can lead to greater isolation and affect their overall wellbeing.”

For many people experiencing homelessness, hearing loss can go unnoticed for years. When you’re focused on finding food, shelter and safety, concerns about your hearing often take a back seat.

Thanks to your generous support, our Wellbeing Centre was able to welcome Hearing Australia on-site, where Annette provided free hearing screenings for people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

By bringing this essential healthcare directly to Hutt St Centre, we helped remove barriers to early intervention and made it easier for people experiencing homelessness to get the support they need.

“Everyone I screened said how much they appreciate having health services like this here. They tell me their stories of what’s happening for them, and it just shows you never know what’s going to happen; life is so unpredictable.”

Following the screenings, an audiologist came and fitted five people with hearing buds and left a supply at Hutt St Centre for anyone else who might need them.

Thank you for helping restore something so easily taken for granted: the ability to hear a conversation, navigate daily life with greater confidence, and feel connected to the world around you.

Your support helps make these moments.
