Anti-Poverty Week
Anti-Poverty Week was established in 2001 and inspired by the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty but has since expanded to include a full week. Over the years a National Facilitating Group was established and Hutt St Centre is co-chairing the SA State Facilitating
Group.
The main aims are to:
- Strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship around the world and within Australia
- Encourage discussion, action and research to address these problems amongst individuals, community, organisations and government.
The APW has a special emphasis on encouraging activities and events at the local community level, however modest or social in nature they may be.
